Greetings from Calvin Helin

I have dedicated my life to helping people and nations escape from poverty and often unrecognized forms of oppression to liberty and self-fulfillment. With knowledge and hard work you can be the master of your own successful future based on self-reliance, self-responsibility and personal accountability. You can unleash the power of those deeply held but unrealized hopes. Experience a real breakthrough by taking control of the forces that shape your future. While such insights must be accompanied by a practical plan of action it is time, in my Native American language to Wai Wah!—“Just Do It.”

My books (and speeches) are dedicated to making a difference and are written in plain language so ordinary people can understand them. Those locked in inter-generational poverty need the knowledge tools to escape from economic dependency. Those of the middle and wealthy classes suffering from “affluenza” need to recognize how it works, and the universal principles that govern its operation. Economic dependency can destroy families and countries. Parents and governments need to know how to arm their families and constituents against it. Governments need to recognize how well-meaning social safety net policies adversely enable dysfunction, reward dependency and penalize self-responsibility and personal accountability.

It is time to move forward from economic dependency to empowerment. Take the journey with me to sustainable future of self-reliance, where self-worth and spiritual fulfillment are not ideals to be strived for but principles to be lived. I invite you to take the first step now-Wai Wah!

“For parents, social workers, those working in the international
development aid, and even for social Christians, this book is a must.
It is an inspiration for all to join the author’s battle against
economic dependency. The struggle against poverty is a noble cause,
but empowerment of the poor is the key, not making them dependent. The
author’s invention of the word undependence is a powerful contribution
to the debate about the globalization of poverty.”

    Armando Lampe

Priest, University Lecturer, Former member of Parliament from Aruba

“Calvin Helin’s epic study of dependence and the physical, mental as well as spiritual harm it spreads among its victims is a revolutionary document. A leading First Nations lawyer, the son of a fisherman, and very much a self-made intellectual and reluctant advocate, Calvin speaks for his people from the heart and from the gut. The collected wisdom in this book will lift the burden and let the sunshine in.”

    PETER C. NEWMAN

Bestselling author and award winning internationally renowned opinion leader.

“Calvin Helin’s ‘Dances with Dependency’ was a wake up call to his fellow Aboriginal peoples and to non-Aboriginal Canadians that Canadian public policy traps many First Nations people in a culture of dependency, one that destroys body, mind and spirit. Now Mr. Helin has widened his scope to governments and middle class families in the western world…Coming from one of North America’s leading Aboriginal reformers, wider society should take this courageous man’s convictions very seriously”

    Michael Adams

President of the Environics Research Group Limited and International Author

“Every person in the media should read this book. They could then follow up and question those in power and push for effective change. Calvin is right on. Thank you Calvin for telling it like it is.”

    Hon. John D. Reynolds

A Member of the Queens Privy Council for Canada
